Hervey Bay is the gateway to Fraser Island and is the perfect place to stay when you want to experience the beautiful Fraser Coast.

Hervey Bay has a huge range of attractions, activities, beaches, bars, restaurants and public facilities, all easily accessible from Urangan Motor Inn.

Take a stroll along the beachside walkway which runs from the Urangan Boat Harbour around to Gatakers Bay, overlooking Dundowran and distant Toogoom.

As one of the few north facing sheltered bays, swimming is available all year round and there are a wide range of water based activities on offer, including scuba diving, kayaking, sailing, jet skiing and sail-boarding.

From The Urangan Boat Harbour, visitors and locals alike set off to explore magnificent Fraser Island by 4WD, with a tour or by boat. From August to November, visitors are able to experience the wonder of encountering the migrating humpback whales from one of the many whale watch boats.

Hervey Bay is accessible by plane, car, bus and train, and is located only 3.5 hours north of Brisbane by road. Hervey Bay is a beautiful city, which values its status as one of Queensland's premiere tourist destinations, offering wonderful climate, spectacular natural assets, and a good time for those visiting and holidaying in our region.

Historically, Hervey Bay is one of the earliest visited regions in Queensland, with Matthew Flinders landing at Dayman Point, Urangan in 1799. The Bay was named by Captain Cook after a respected senior naval officer, Lord Augustus Hervey.

The traditional indigenous owners of Hervey Bay, the Butchulla people still maintain a close contact with the area, and invite visitors to come to Korrawinga at Scrub Hill, to find out more about the history of the local people, and to learn about bush foods.
